Darrell Ferreira, Chairman of the Board

Darrell is a lifelong Delta resident and farmer. He was an original member of the Delta Protection Commission, Past President of the Delta Pear Advisory Board, former President of Reclamation District #551, former member of the Board of the California Tomato Growers Association, and original and active member of the Delta Municipal Advisory Council.

Craig James, Director

Craig has worked for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network as an insurance agent for 26 years specializing in Life Insurance and Health Insurance. As a part of his job, he has been involved with estate planning and has specialized in dealing with various businesses and farmers. He has been a part of the board of directors for the Bank of Rio Vista for 6 years. Prior to his service on the Bank Board, he served 12 years on the Board for St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Celia McCormack, Director

Celia was appointed to the board in 2005. Her great-great grandfather, Peter Hamilton, and great grandfather, Thomas McCormack, were among the founding members of the bank. She was born and raised in Rio Vista, graduating from Rio Vista High School. After that, she obtained a B.S. in Economics from UC Berkeley.

Her early career after college was in the advertising business. She worked for Kresser/Craig Advertising in Los Angeles for several years, followed by DDB Needham Advertising in Los Angeles and Sacramento as an Account Manager. In 1991, she and her husband started an advertising agency in Sacramento, the Glass Agency.

In 2005, her family decided to bottle and market wine under their own label. She began working for their brand, Dancing Coyote, handling all Sales and Marketing. She continues to function in that role today overseeing production of 10,000 cases and distribution in 16 U.S. states, as well as several international markets.

She currently lives in Sacramento with her three children.


Jeanne McCormack, Director

Jeanne’s grandfather, Dan McCormack, was a founder of the Bank of Rio Vista, and her father, Wallace McCormack, served as President and Chairman for 50 years. Jeanne grew up in Rio Vista and was educated at the University of California at Berkeley and at Harvard University. She served for two years in the Peace Corps in Malawi and then worked another fifteen years in international development in Africa. Since 1987 she has been been farming with her husband in the Montezuma Hills near Rio Vista. She was appointed to the board in 1992.

Virginia Varela, CEO/Director

Virginia is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Rio Vista. Varela, brings a unique combination of regulatory and private banking experience to the banking industry.

Varela’s diverse banking background includes working as a regulator for more than 24 years. She worked as a Senior Manager for the Treasury Department in Washington DC, and for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Previously, she was Assistant Regional Director of the Office of Thrift Supervision for over ten years, supervising over 60 thrifts in the Western states, and earlier oversaw a six unit technical and financial services department with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Most recently Varela was President/Director of a community bank in Central California.

Varela holds a B.A degree in English Literature, a B.S. degree in Economics, and a MBA, from UC Berkeley with further studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
